ARS-1 — Action Residue
Canonical Operator · Post-Action Thermodynamic Failure (AP₁ / AP₁.1)
Action Residue (ARS-1) is the thermodynamic condition in which the
pressure generated by an action does not dissipate upon completion.
Instead of returning the human system to stillness (Red), the environment fails
to carry the end of the action, leaving pressure trapped inside the user.
Residue increases L (leakage), collapses ΔR,
and prevents F₁ (field continuity).
Residue is not psychological.
Residue is architectural.
The action ended, but the environment did not let the system return to stillness.

Canonical Definition
Action Residue is retained post-action pressure that persists because
the environment did not carry the end of the action to stillness.
Residue is what remains when an action ends, but the system keeps pulling.
Residue distorts field transitions, increases leakage, and forces ΔR collapse.
What Action Residue Is
- retained post-action pressure
- non-dissipated energetic load
- a continuation that should not exist
- a failure of environmental carry
- distortion of field continuity (F₁)
- evidence of ΔR violation
Effects of Residue
- lingering obligation
- extended pressure after the action ended
- increased L (leakage)
- ΔR collapse
- breakdown of calm and presence
- behavioral inertia
- sticky post-action states
Residue is how environments silently exhaust humans.
Structural Position
Intent ↓ Threshold ↓ Action ↓ (no dissipation) ↓ Action Residue ↓ L ↑ ΔR ↓ F₁ blocked
Residue is not user failure —
it is environmental failure.
Relation to ΔR
ΔR ensures reversible stress during action initiation.
Residue breaks reversibility during exit.
Reversible entry + irreversible exit = structural harm.
Relation to PAI-1
If ARS-1 occurs, PAI-1 (Post-Action Integrity) triggers an
enforced recovery attempt to Red within W₀ bounds.
PAI-1 does not guarantee recovery.
It guarantees attempted recovery to Red within W₀ constraints.
Only when recovery cannot be carried does the system allow a
Legacy Layer fallback as structural containment.
Canonical Closing
Action Residue is never human failure.
Action Residue is architectural failure.
The action could not end because the environment did not let it end.
